I will happily admit that I am a Math Nerd. In a former life, I was a high school math teacher. I just love the feel of a crisp new math book in my hand. So, I’m always on the lookout for something new and exciting to add to our math education. Recently, I discovered a new math subscription (YES! Math AND Subscriptions – I’m getting giddy thinking about it!) from Discovery Learning and of course, we had to try it out.
I received this product for free. I was compensated for my time. However, all opinions expressed in this post are my honest opinions and I was not required to post a positive review.
A new math book AND a pen!
When the Discovery Learning Math Subscription box was delivered to our home, I was most excited to see shiny new math books. My daughter was excited to see a new pen. Our levels of excitement for math books may be on opposite ends of the spectrum. While I looked at the new math book and began eagerly planning how to incorporate this spiral learning book into our mastery learning approach, my daughter’s enthusiasm was tempered by the fact that it was just another math book. She wasn’t too crazy about adding more math to her life.
But, alas she was won over by all the colorful pages and the fancy multiplication chart ~ not to mention that pen!
So what comes in a Discovery Learning Math Subscription box?
Inside the box, you will find:
- A letter to the parents explaining what to expect from the program and simple instructions
- A letter to the student
- A student math workbook
- A math answer guide
- A unit test
- And that awesome pen

How we are incorporating Discovery Learning Math Subscription into our math curriculum
We have been using Math U See for several years. Lately, we’ve decided to switch up our supplements and try something new. Math U See is a mastery approach to math education and generally only takes my daughter three days to complete the lesson and the workbook pages. That leaves us with a free day with no math.
Discovery Learning Math Subscription is a spiral approach to math. Because these two approaches can complement each other so well, we found using Discovery Learning Math Subscription once a week enhanced our math curriculum. It also relieves that nagging feeling of “Are there any gaps in our learning?”
What are the benefits of Discovery Learning Math Subscription?
- It arrives in your mailbox
- It requires no planning
- It is colorful and kid-friendly
- It is a great review of concepts formerly taught
- It helps build on concepts not quite mastered
- It promotes independent learning
- There are YouTube videos available when a student needs a little extra help
- If no YouTube video is available, customer service will create one to help your student understand the concept
- It comes with a pen!
Are you looking for a math subscription to supplement your math curriculum? Or are you looking for a fun way to stimulate your child’s learning? Then Discovery Learning Math Subscription is the answer.
Hi, I’m Dachelle. I’m a homeschooling mom of 3 in the South. I love chocolate and have been known to hide it from my children. I can often be found reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella — don’t judge. I blog, here, at HideTheChocolate.com when I’m not creating book clubs and making lists…lots and lots of lists (it’s an addiction). Learn more…
