I'm sure by now you have been inundated with emails and social media posts all about the Build Your Bundle homeschool sale. Well, it is the biggest homeschooling sale all year long. And it does contain a lot of super discounted products (think 90% off kind of discounts). But, does it deliver? Is the Build Your Bundle homeschool sale worth all the publicity?
Every year people ask so many questions about the sale, not just "Is it worth it?", but "How does it work?" and many more. The 2019 sale made some significant changes that I personally believe deliver a lot more "bang for your buck." These changes are here to stay for the 2020 sale.
I have tried to answer all these questions honestly and to the best of my ability while also addressing the changes this year. Feel free to jump to the question you want answered. And, if you have any other questions, just let me know in the comments.
Is the Build Your Bundle sale worth the email barrage?
Honestly, no. I mean NOTHING is worth the massive amount of Build Your Bundle sale emails I receive each year. It makes me want to unsubscribe from everyone. But, that would be counterproductive.
First, I love the blogs I subscribe to every week. I chose them based on their amazing content, heartfelt emails, and their ability to let me know when something great is on the horizon -- which brings me to point number two.
These bloggers that I trust to tell me what they thought about curriculum, give me advice on planning, and share with me their parenting woes are the same people who believe in this sale. Maybe they have a product in the sale. Maybe they LOVE some of the products in the sale. Maybe they just think getting hundreds of dollars of curriculum for pennies on the dollar is just too good a deal for me to pass up. Whatever their motivation they know a good thing and they are sharing it with me. Maybe I should at least check it out.
Is the Build Your Bundle Sale worth the price?
Take a look for yourself. Here's a list of all the bundles that are included in the sale with their individual product prices and their sales prices.
Maybe you could schedule it all out and hit every sale for each product at exactly the right time during the year and get a good discount. But, I don't believe you could ever get as good a deal as you do with this sale. Yes, I am a contributor this year, so I have a vested interest. But, I wasn't a contributor for several years prior, and I have consistently purchased one or more bundles each year. I simply can't get enough of this sale.
Are the products in the Build Your Bundle Sale quality products?
While I haven't vetted all 160+ products, I have used several of the products in the sale or have used similar products from the companies who created them. Here are some of my favorites:
Well, obviously this is my ultimate favorite! But, even though this is my product (and I am completely biased as to its worth) I can guarantee that there are hours of fun educational activities that are mostly self-led within these book clubs.
This is our brand new membership that is launching with over 30 book clubs! Plus, we have workshops, monthly interactive book clubs and member's only bonuses!
We have used several of Music in Our Homeschool's music lessons. I like them because they are low prep for me. The kids like them because they can do them independently and they are fun. This particular course is a fun way to introduce folk songs to a new generation.
Last year I was introduced to Captivating Compass and I love their science courses. They are online courses that take a deep dive into the life of famous scientists. There are several in the series and most are in the bundle this year.
Oh my goodness. I cannot express how much I hate meal planning. So, I'm excited to find a program to teach the kids to help out. And, what's better than a course for meal planning created by a dietician?
I am not an artist, but with Beyond The Stick Figure's drawing course I can pretend to have a little talent. These courses are perfect for those of you who feel a little inept in the artistry department.
Something I've always wanted to learn was Hebrew (and Greek). So, I've got this course in my wishlist for me! I can't wait to learn Hebrew from They Call Me Blessed, because I'm a homeschooler as well!
If your kids are into American Girl (like my youngest is), then they are going to love learning history through the lens of their doll. We've used several of these guides and they are chock-full of great ideas.
So, how can I get everything I want for the best deal?
Let's make this easy. All the bundles are amazing, and you need them all. Ok, that's not a likely scenario, but let me play it out so you can see how you can get over $1900 worth of products for just $312.30!
Now, supposing you are not obsessed with purchasing every. single. bundle., then you are going to love what the folks at Build Your Bundle have for you in the Build Your Own Bundle.
P.S. With this new structure you can actually get everything (except for the Premium Courses) for under $200!
What is the structure of the Build Your Own Bundle?
If you like products in several different bundles, then you can build your own bundle with no restrictions. That's right, throw in a $9.99 product with a $39.99 product in the same bundle. With the Build Your Own Bundle structure you put anything and everything you WANT (and hopefully need ) in the bundle and get a fabulous discount. You can see the discount structure below.
Just add the products you want to your own bundle and once the total reaches specific values your discount is applied. I have to say that this is my favorite part of this year's bundle sale. I love making my own bundle and now I don't have to worry about premium or regular products.
Now, if you can follow the math (I know there are some math haters out there), then here's a quick run down on how to get the most for your buck.
Once your purchase reaches $160 the discounted price for your custom built bundle is $40. This is the same price you will pay for $200 in products at the 80% discount rate.
For example... if you want $175 in retail products, the 25% discount would be $43.75. But if you add just $25 more in retail (making your retail total $200), you will only pay $40. This may be the only time in your life you can add more cost and actually pay less! You will essentially receive $25 in retail product for FREE!
At the 85% discount, $300 is your cut-off. So any order over $300 in retail will pay as much (or more, if you go over $300) than the discounted rate at $400. And $533.30 would be the cut-off for the 90% savings.
Now, don't you agree that this option is pretty freaking awesome?! And, don't worry, if your brain is too tired to do this math, I have a spreadsheet below that will calculate it for you.
Will I use everything in the bundle?
Honestly, I never have, but that doesn't mean you won't. I'm a curriculum hoarder. I buy tons of things that are AWESOME and then I never use them. It's sad and I'm ashamed, but I can't help it. I love curriculum.
This is one of those guilt-free buying times. The bundles are priced at such a deep discount that if I use just ONE of the products in them I have often gotten my money's worth. Usually there's only a couple of products I don't use, so it is definitely worth it for me to go ahead and purchase the bundle.
What if I am overwhelmed with all the options?
Yeah, I get that. Over the years I've spent HOURS strategizing on what I wanted to purchase and how to go about it. Never fear. There are several options you can use to help you come up with a plan.
First, check out the site and the different products. I like to hit the bundles that fit our homeschool style first and then work out from there.
Once you have looked over the list of products, you can download this printable shopping list to help you "build your bundle."
Now, if you'd prefer a non-printable, I've created a very simple spreadsheet to create your bundle (I'm letting my nerd out since I'm a CPA in a former life ~ we eat, sleep, and breathe spreadsheets). You just choose your wish list items and it will calculate your bundle price for you. Simple, right? Just put in a Y for "Yes, I really want this product" and it will do the rest!
Click HERE for a video tutorial on the worksheet. It's a tutorial from last year's bundle, but the spreadsheet design hasn't changed.
Directions on How to Use This Sheet: 1. Make a copy of this spreadsheet before using by choosing FILE > MAKE A COPY 2. Enter a Y in the Wish List column for each item you would like to purchase. 3. Only type in the yellow cells.
**Note: as much as I have tested this I cannot guarantee without a doubt that there isn't a glitch somewhere. So if you find one, please let me know and please don't hold me responsible if it doesn't work out exactly when you input your info into Build Your Bundle's shopping cart.
What if I have problems during the sale?
What if I buy this bundle and forget that I have it?
Techie Homeschool Mom is coming to your rescue to help you organize all that new digital homeschool curriculum you get at the sale. In fact, she will help you organize every aspect of your techie homeschool. She teaches you how to organize all your digital "stuff" in the Techie Homeschool Mom‘s Guide to Digital Homeschool Organization.
Can I get anything for free?
Shoot, yeah! During the sale there will be a giveaway for everyday! It starts with a giveaway of EVERY. SINGLE. BUNDLE!
But, it doesn't stop there. Each day of the sale there will be multiple giveaways of awesome products from publishers like CTC Math, Techie Homeschool Mom, Reading Patch, The Multi-Taskin' Mom and more.
Also, everyone who places an order will receive a Homeschool Mom Journal freebie. Enter below.

Don't miss out! The Build Your Bundle Sale ends in:
Hi, I’m Dachelle. I’m a homeschooling mom of 3 in the South. I love chocolate and have been known to hide it from my children. I can often be found reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella — don’t judge. I blog, here, at HideTheChocolate.com when I’m not creating book clubs and making lists…lots and lots of lists (it’s an addiction). Learn more…
