This Month's Book
This month our book club was on the book, Backyard Fairies, by Phoebe Wahl. I fell in love with this book while browsing the book store. The gorgeous graphics and the whimsical nature trek into the world of fairies made us want to go on an adventure into our own backyard.
Backyard Fairy Garden
For a while my youngest has been asking to create a fairy garden. We even found some cute little fairy garden decorations at the dollar store one day. And, sadly, I put them in the garage and forgot about them. When I saw this book I thought now was the perfect time to set up our fairy garden and explore our backyard.
Setting up our Fairy Garden
We found all our fairy garden furniture and the youngest got to work creating tiny living spaces for our magical friends. We picked out a place close to the front walk so she could see it each day and make any notes on if the fairies had visited or not.

Not only did they get their very own living area, but also a kitchen and a play yard.

She even picked flowers to go in the basket on the table.

Backyard Nature Hunt (aka Fairy Hunt)
Fairies are known for being very secretive and hiding from people. But, there is often evidence of the fairies if you look hard enough. So the youngest grabbed her camera and went on a trek through the back yard to find evidence of our mysterious neighbors.

Dragonflies are known steeds for fairies, but they are so fast that little people have a hard time catching them on camera.

Could this be evidence of a fairy who fell through the spider's web?

And, as all good nature trekkers do, she began to find beautiful things in nature to photograph. And, our search for fairies turned into a search for the beauty in our own backyard.

Backyard Fairies Online Nature Book Club
Go on a nature trek with us based on the book, Backyard Fairies. This online book club will go on rabbit trails of discovery about fairies, toadstools, moss and more. We will find ways to learn by experiencing parts of the book through arts and crafts.
We will add a little nature study magic dust and go on outdoor adventures into nature.
At the conclusion of the story, we will have a "party school" celebrating nature's mysteries.

Hi, I’m Dachelle. I’m a homeschooling mom of 3 in the South. I love chocolate and have been known to hide it from my children. I can often be found reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella — don’t judge. I blog, here, at HideTheChocolate.com when I’m not creating book clubs and making lists…lots and lots of lists (it’s an addiction). Learn more…
