April’s Book Basket includes an Arrow Title, titles from our Shakespeare online class, more American History, Poetry and more.
History Book Basket
We are continuing our study of Early American History. We use Stories of America from SimplyCharlotteMason.com as our spine. This month we added a Narrative Poem, John Paul Jones-Victory at Sea. We love the Who Were They? books, so we also read Who Was Ben Franklin?
We also continued with a fan favorite in this house, the videos Liberty’s Kids.
We have been enjoying our study of Shakespeare with another Who Were They? book, Who Was William Shakespeare?
Science Book Basket
In Science, we have been talking about Magnetism and Static Electricity. We read a Magic School Bus book, Amazing Magnetism.
Language Arts Book Basket
This month we had the incredible opportunity to meet with an author and have him read his new book to us.He took ideas from the children and created a new “monster” just for them. The book, Faraway Friends, is a cute story with some great illustrations.
Our Arrow book this month was Love That Dog. In celebration of Poetry Month, we opted to go with a non-traditional poetry book. The story is told in poems from a boy to his teacher. It’s a fascinating way to tell a story, but make sure you read the poems in the back BEFORE you read the book. Otherwise, you might be confused. I did a Facebook Live about our Book Club that you can find here, and here’s a link to the post.
We didn’t read a Quiver book this month because we opted to start a Magic Tree House unit study. This month we read Dinosaurs Before Dark and The Knight at Dawn. A- really enjoys reading these. The chapters are the perfect size for an 8-year-old.
And, of course, there’s the library haul. I couldn’t possibly list all the books we get from the library. They read them too fast and return them. But here are a few of the favorites:

Hi, I’m Dachelle. I’m a homeschooling mom of 3 in the South. I love chocolate and have been known to hide it from my children. I can often be found reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella — don’t judge. I blog, here, at HideTheChocolate.com when I’m not creating book clubs and making lists…lots and lots of lists (it’s an addiction). Learn more…
