Inside: Our review of the Zeus on the Loose Game
The month of February is a rather blah month for homeschoolers. Something about the end of the holiday season and the frigid cold causes a downward spiral that results in no energy for school…or work…or laundry.
You get my point.
Lately, I’ve had to muster all my strength just to keep us fed (and in cleanish clothes).
But, then a friend of mine mentioned all the incredible games her family had been playing. I started thinking that perhaps we should start playing more games at our house. I started by adding a game in each day. Within two days, the kids were begging to play a game with Mom. And the Game of the Week was born.

Zeus on the Loose Overview
We played several games during the month of February, but today I want to concentrate on just one of them.
Zeus on the Loose is a game I accidentally found while browsing Amazon for things I could ship to myself in 2 days that I probably don’t need and will never use.
It combines my daughter’s love of all things Greek gods (she has read through the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympians series) and my secret love of hiding math in fun activities.
Not to mention, it is a competitive game that allows stealing from your sibling (or parent).
Zeus on the Loose Game Rules and Strategies
Zeus on the Loose is recommended for ages 8 & up, but any child who can add, subtract and count by ten should have no problem playing. The game includes a set of Greek gods cards, number cards and a figurine of Zeus. As each player plays a number card, they must add to the total already played (hence, the secret math).
There’s also a bit of strategy as each Greek god has a different power that can be played. The winner is the person who is in possession of Zeus when Mt. Olympus reaches 100.
Our Opinion of Zeus on the Loose
Zeus on the Loose has quickly become a favorite around our house, as even Dad has been ambushed at the door on his way in from work.
The rounds are also relatively short, so you can play a few while waiting on the laundry to dry. See, math and laundry, I’ll count this week a success!
What games do your kids like to play?
Hi, I’m Dachelle. I’m a homeschooling mom of 3 in the South. I love chocolate and have been known to hide it from my children. I can often be found reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella — don’t judge. I blog, here, at HideTheChocolate.com when I’m not creating book clubs and making lists…lots and lots of lists (it’s an addiction). Learn more…
